Roberton
Primary School is a small rural school serving an extensive,
self-contained rural community south west of Hawick, in the
valley of the Borthwick Water.
The school itself was built in the early nineteenth century and
is presently the oldest school in operation in the Scottish
Borders area.
The internal layout of the school takes the form of one large
open plan classroom with adjoining kitchen. The Headteacher and
school assistant presently share an office.
The playground has large sized tarmac and grass areas and is
safely contained by perimeter walls. The school has just
completed an extensive garden area which can also be used as an
outdoor classroom and a recreation area for staff and pupils.
As Roberton is a rural school most children are from
agricultural backgrounds, however, within the catchment area is
the Beshara Institute of Esoteric Education and parents
attending courses enrol their children at Roberton.
In
August 2008 Roberton Primary School was officially linked as a
satellite to Drumlanrig St Cuthbert’s Primary School, in Hawick.
The pupils go to Drumlanrig for PE and playground interaction
once a week.
In
March 2009 the web site was launched.
